Remember that feeling of freedom you had on your first bike? It comes up on biking forums and social media repeatedly and in most cases, never really arrives at a definitive answer that everyone agrees on. This is usually due to people's differing views on what adventure riding is to them and how this influences practical bike selection for the type of adventure riding they do.

The KLR650's simplicity might be its appeal, but it also comes with the usual touring and adventure accessories like a front screen, a decent sized gas tank and luggage racks, and of course, it's an absolute joy to ride. And since most adventures require a good deal of road riding, we felt that the Super Tenere deserved a place on the list.

An 18-litre fuel tank, long travel suspension, high ground clearance and dry weight of 186 kg certainly make the SuperDual a very attractive proposition as a lightweight, easy to use adventure bike. Merlin have a CX bike 105 equipped which is quite competitive too th a similar range of gear IIRC.

When dual-sports are fitted for long-distance travel with accessories such as oversized gas tanks, luggage, and other distance-oriented gear, they are often referred to as "adventure bikes". After giving it up to raise her family, she got back in to it again and founded Global Moto Adventures, an organization for women motorcycle riders.

The ride was over 3 days and included some of the Battlefields monuments where Adventure Bike Safaris really knows his history. For us, it's about offering motorbikes that are suited for the purpose - that of touring and relaxing. The heavier machines were less popular with real” dirt riders, who began modifying them to create lighter and more competent trail machines.

Last year the Multistrada 950 signalled Ducati's desire to open up its adventure range to a wider audience by offering its luxury dual sport machine in a slightly smaller capacity, and 2018 has seen that bike's big brother get a capacity increase from 1198cc to 1262cc.

If you intend on doing lots of proper off-road work they still offer a version called the R1200GS Adventure (R1200GSA) which has a larger tank, lots of drop protection and more ground clearance although it's another 20kg heavier and is due a major update soon.

The SWM SuperDual adventure bike will be launched sometime this year, we think in the first quarter of the year. Purchased new, the most commonly used bikes for adventure riding nowadays are fairly reliable, some more than others, but most major design faults have been identified, removed and refined from bikes ageing past their debut period.

This travel adventure bike has been created for true globetrotters for whom no destination is too remote and who want to conquer the world off the beaten track. Although motorcycles are improving overall, riders are getting older. At a rally, you can find everything from Yamaha TW200 to KTM 1090 riders handing out together, sharing the same stories, BBQ and campfire.

To me, the most exciting motorcycle in that future product line is the Pan America, a large-capacity, liquid-cooled adventure bike in the BMW mold.

Thanks to that fun triple cylinder engine, it makes for a great sized machine that has enough grunt for a wide range of riding styles but keeps the whole package nice and light and nimble at the same time. It's been in our bloodline ever since the very first Triumph Tigers won three gold medals in the 1936 International Six Days Trial, and this started the first chapter of the world's longest-running adventure motorbike story.
